
Roy C. Ketcham’s Londin Watkins secured the Poughkeepsie Journal Girls Athlete of the Week honor for April 27-May 3, earning 48% of the total vote. Now, the nomination window for the May 4-10 award is open.
Nominations are based on stats and game reports submitted throughout the week. Coaches should email game details and player statistics to [email protected] before the week ends. Each week’s winner will be announced in the following week’s poll.
Here are the nominees for May 4-10:
**Alaina Lugo, John Jay softball** – Lugo tallied six hits, two home runs, six RBIs, and two runs scored.
**Gianna Jones, Highland softball** – Jones struck out 11 batters while allowing only four hits, adding two hits and three RBIs in an 11-3 win over Catskill. She also fanned 11 and drove in a run during a 10-9 victory against Spackenkill.
**Sophia Rescigno, Arlington girls lacrosse** – Rescigno scored seven goals and added two assists.
**Emily Nevermann, Pawling girls lacrosse** – Nevermann netted nine goals and two assists in a 21-8 win over Haldane.
**Quinn Ahrenholz, Highland girls lacrosse** – Ahrenholz poured in 14 goals as the Huskies went 3-0 on the week.
**Talia Durant, Pine Plains softball** – Durant threw a complete game with 15 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 10-0 victory over Spackenkill.
**Jamie Gemmel, Arlington flag football** – Gemmel posted 161 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions, plus 161 passing yards and four passing touchdowns, along with three interceptions on defense.
**Sam Maleck, Marlboro softball** – Maleck struck out 12, allowed two hits, and had two hits and an RBI in a 5-1 win over Rondout.
**Sam Harris, Arlington softball** – Harris totaled four hits, a home run, two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
**Morgan Doughty, John Jay track and field** – Doughty won the javelin throw (117-8) at the Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains.
