Ohtani Homers, but Dodgers Extend Losing Streak to Four

The Los Angeles Dodgers have now lost four consecutive games after falling 6-2 to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Despite Shohei Ohtani finally breaking his home run drought, the team’s offensive struggles persisted.

### Yamamoto Surrenders Three Homers in Six-Inning Outing

Yoshinobu Yamamoto had struggled against the Giants in his previous six starts against the division rival, and Tuesday’s performance continued that trend. The right-hander retired the first eight batters he faced with ease before running into trouble against Giants backup catcher Eric Haase.

Haase tied the game 1-1 with a solo home run in the third inning. The Giants’ bottom of the order then struck again in the fifth, as Harrison Bader launched a long ball, followed by Haase’s second homer of the night. It marked the first time in Yamamoto’s young MLB career that he allowed three home runs in a single outing.

Those back-to-back homers gave the Giants a lead they never relinquished. Yamamoto exited after recording just one out in the seventh inning, leaving runners on the corners. Blake Treinen entered but couldn’t prevent the Giants from adding two more runs in the seventh.

Yamamoto finished 6⅓ innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits while striking out eight. His ERA now sits at 3.60.

“Overall, I think I was throwing pretty good pitches, except for three pitches I mislocated, and it was easy for them to hammer,” Yamamoto said.

### Ohtani Ends Homer Drought, but Offense Remains Muted

Before the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed that Ohtani would not hit in Thursday’s series finale and is likely to skip hitting on his next start day as well. That decision seemed to spark Ohtani, who recorded a base hit in his first at-bat—his fifth hit in his last 39 plate appearances.

In the third inning, Ohtani launched a 398-foot opposite-field home run to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, ending his home run skid.

That was the only bright spot for the Dodgers’ offense Tuesday night. Trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning, Los Angeles loaded the bases with Max Muncy at the plate representing the tying run. However, Muncy struck out looking, and Andy Pages flied out to right field.

With the bases loaded in 2026, the Dodgers are now 5-for-27. Adding to the frustration, all four losses in the streak have come by four or more runs—matching the longest such streak in a single season since at least the 1900s, according to MLB.com’s Sonja Chen.

### What’s Next?

The Dodgers fall to 24-18 on the season. Ohtani will take the mound on Wednesday as the team looks to snap its losing skid and salvage a win in the series.
