Former Ak Bars head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov shared his expectations for the team’s series against Lokomotiv in the 2026 Gagarin Cup Final.
– How pleased are you with Ak Bars reaching the final? Could it be said that Ak Bars faces less pressure than Lokomotiv, since Lokomotiv has been in the final three years in a row? Are emotions on Ak Bars’ side?
– It’s good for everyone that our team is playing in the final. We haven’t been there for three years. For us, the goal has always been the same – winning the cup. We’ve always strived for that. I don’t think there is any pressure on Ak Bars. The team is in good spirits and well-prepared. Whether it’s easier or not – this is the final. Two strong teams have made it there. Both are deserving.
– You worked with Alexander Radulov. How can he be stopped?
– The Ak Bars coaches will figure out that situation and guide the players.
– What do you think will be key in this series?
– Team play and discipline, order. The players will need to do everything necessary, everything the coaches ask. And of course, you need some luck in the final. Without fortune, it doesn’t happen.
– Every player in the playoffs has their own superstitions. Did you have anything special?
– No, I didn’t have anything like that. I took it very calmly. I had my own routine – things I did consistently. I knew how I woke up in the morning and what I did next. Nothing special, – said Bilyaletdinov.
